Garden

Lands End (Landseinde) is situated on about 1 hectare of land (2 acres). I love gardening and in the past I followed several garden design courses at  Holland's garden . Around the house and the B&B cottages I have planted native hedges and shrubs. This in cooperation with the Regional Landscapes Meetjesland.

Beech hedges divide the garden in garden rooms.
In the front of the house I have planted cottage plants. My husband dug a pond and it now contains beautiful water lilies and other water plants.
In spring 2010 I created 2 mirrored borders with fixed plants from nursery  In goede aarde
from Biervliet, a nearby village in the Netherlands.
I also prepared the rose garden last year in December 2010 and in the early spring of 2011 I planted several sorts of roses, supplied by organic Rozenkwekerij De Bierkreek.located in Schoondijke (The Netherlands).

The big meadow in the back is surrounded by a native hedge. In the meadow itself we have a Flemish fruit orchards with old varieties of apples and pears.
We also dug two ecological ponds to attract rare plants and species which grew here in the past. We particularly would like to attract salamanders and the rare smooth tree frog (gladde boomkikker), which was quite common here, but has become very rare today.
We use of course our own gardening compost. Further we have created a number of bird bushes, giving maximum shelter to the animals that live at Lands End (Landseinde).
When walking through the garden you will discover a number of seats and benches from which you can enjoy the plants, flowers, bees and butterflies. For enthusiastic gardeners the discovery of the natural character and the diversity of plants will be a real pleasure and makes a visit to this garden more than worthwhile!
PS:
Since we have moved several times, this garden is not my first try-out. I also made a website of the garden of our previous house. Please click: previous garden to pay it a virtual visit.

Animals on Land End
For those who love animals…
Lands End (Landseinde) is a place with quite a variety of animals.
We have lots of chickens, a couple of geese, Meggy our goat, Frits and Frans the two Shetland ponies and last but not least, our dog Mees, He is a Dutch breed (Frisian wetterhoun) and originates from the Dutch province of Friesland, in the entre North of Holland. Our Mees is a very fine dog. He loves to get attention, but in the meanwhile he always keeps an eye on the premises.
Obviously you will certainly get fresh laid eggs for breakfast ;-)
The wide variety of the trees, bushes, hedges, rose hip, bird luring plants and shrubs guarantee that there is plenty of food for the wildlife at Lands End (Landseinde). Animals can easily find plenty of shelter and hidden spots for breeding.
For four years in a row we host a partridge family in and around the hawthorn hedge. On the top of the old sea dyke at the front of the house we see every year the same male pheasant. Probably a clever guy, he succeeds to survive the shooting season.
In the evening and at night hares and rabbits play and eat some of my flowers. But because of other redundant food supply it does not really matter.
In the spring the fruit trees are full with amazingly beautiful blossoms. And during autumn the redundant fruit and berries are a real party for the many sparrows and other birds.

Here and there we have attached birdhouses at the walls. In the big barn we also have attached an owl nestbox. Last year the screech owl that bred in it had two small ones.
Not only for our guests, also for the versatile wildlife Lands End (Landseinde) is like paradise on earth…
